The Bible is littered with various kinds of literature – poems, proverbs, wisdom sayings, historical biographies, songs of lament & praise, letters, prophecies, census data and stories. Sometimes it’s difficult to remember that these stories were written about people just like us with similar temptations, lusts, feelings and problems. Often that’s because the circumstances of the stories seem so distant from us. The settings and the culture feel alien and unreal. But even when if that is the case, one thing that we can be sure of, is that the same God who revealed himself to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel is the same God here with us today.
We have the benefit of a relationship with a God who is unchanging and faithful. Even when we are unsure of his existence or can’t feel his presence in our lives, the stories should remind us otherwise. He was faithful then and is faithful now, the circumstances may change but our God remains the same!
